West Texas has a flavor all its own, and beauty all year 'round. This trip was a Christmas getaway. We stayed at the Indian Lodge in Fort Davis several days, and woke the morning of Christmas Eve to snow. It wasn't a heavy snow, but enough to remind us it was winter. After touring McDonald Observatory, we headed in to Fort Davis to see the Fort, then on to Alpine and Marathon. The Gage Hotel must have the best food in the Big Bend area, and we dined on a lovely Christmas eve feast. Christmas day included a hike to "the window" in the Big Bend National Park. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the day. We had the good fortune this trip to cross paths region-wide with a lovely Scottish couple, and we marveled at how small such a large area could seem.
