This morning there was a brisk breeze outside
and the smell of Autumn in the air. We headed
to Acadia National Park for a bike ride along
the historic carriage trails. The leaves are
turning now, and we are surprised with new,
more vivid colors every day! We stop periodically
to collect leaves and sketch. After our ride and a
hearty helping of creamy New England clam
chowder, we tour the coastal lighthouses.
The lighthouses are a fascinating mix of
history and architecture, simple in design,
yet functional. We got caught in the rain
on a hike out to one of the lighthouses,
my sketchpad got drenched. I spent the
return trip with the heat on full blast, trying to
dry the pages. Our hosts graciously dried our
clothes while we sought out a fire to warm the
chill. Dinner tonight -- LOBSTER!
