I've toured the California wine country a number of
times, and a visit always affords many fine tasting
opportunities. Visiting the wineries provides a great
cultural and historical view of this part of California
as well. In Napa, I've been greeted by the owner
as I drove up to the lovely Wermuth winery over
on the Silverado Trail, and taken tours of the
Mondovi and Beringer wineries. These wineries
are known for their wines as well as their
architecture. One of my favorite visits to the
Sonoma wine country began with a lovely bed
and breakfast and ended with a peaceful coastal
drive on Highway 1. In between, we completed
quite an interesting tour of the wineries of Sonoma.
The home of Korbel Champagne was rich with
history and lovely architecture. Other places
we visited included the cave of Field Stone,
former hop storage containers at Hop Kiln,
and a beautiful mill at Mill Creek. The diversity of
wineries in Sonoma is part of the charm.
